Wow, my very first blog entry. What should I be writing? OF COURSE, NABEH! Some of you might be wondering why I like to "Nabeh here, Nabeh there". Well, it's just catchy and comes out of my mouth as smooth as silk. I have never explicitly understand the meaning of it. Maybe it derived from the word Nan Bei (south & north in chinese).
Once upon a time in China, there is this burly, fearless guard who watch over the gate of a town between north and south of China. Everyday, there will be numerous travellers going through this town gate. They will ask the guard where is this place (Well, it is a small poor town that can't afford any stone carving, mind you). The guard will reply Nan Bei Men (South-North Gate).
Imagine every day, every now and then, people will ask where is this place, the guard will have to reply Nan Bei Men numerous times. Of course, by the end of the day, he would reply "NABEH MAH". WHO WOULDN'T ?!
With the movement of immigrants, words start to spread. Fable becomes legend, legend becomes myth, myth becomes history, history becomes rumours. It was rumoured that if you feel tingling down your spine at night, you just screamed "NABEH LAH". All your fears will be gone! Maybe it is the warcry of the burly, fearless guard that drives off all the dirty things. Maybe it is very word "NABEH", when shouted, scared the shit out of everything, especially NSF. Try screaming "NABEH" at the security dogs and you will understand (But I am keeping my fingers crossed!) (",).
Pardon my crudeness and ang mo.
